It's pretty simple: If you don't know who Jim Jarmush is, if you don't understand and feel his style of movie making, then don't watch this film. You'll only be scratching your head. Why did I watch this movie? On the other hand, if you know Jim Jarmusch's work, then you will definitely enjoy this great film. It has alot to offer. It isn't necessarily for Jim Jarmush fans only. You could start here but you could also watch DEAD MAN by Jim Jarmush and understand what he's about. And if you still don't like DEAD MAN, then Jim Jarmusch is simply not for you. Thank God he's for me.

Bill Murray + jim jarmush = great movie. A funny script (and somewhat touching) with Bill Murray delivering his lines with perfect timing as usual...

I get the low reviews that this movie has been given, because these kinds of movies, that aren;t all about action but more about what;s really going on, are an aquired taste. More to the point Bill Murray is a required taste, mainly because he doesn;t show much emotion, in his actions or his face. But that is just the way he does stuff and I think he can still be funny despite his ;comatose; state as some are describing him. I watched this movie when I was 11 and I enjoyed it so I think it deserves something for the laughs and all that lies beneath.

"stupider ending" (quote from one reviewer below who gave it a 2) That pretty much sums up where the folks who panned this movie come from. It's a great character study, not a film designed to tell a story.

This is a great film. Bill Murray has transcended the goofy stuff he did earlier, and has turned in a first-rate performance as a guy who realizes a bit later in life that he has p**ed away his best years coasting with no purpose. By the time he realizes what is important, it's too late and he has to reckon with himself, his past, and his inability to turn back the clock. For those who thought it was too slow -- go watch some car chases. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who liked it. A great cautionary tale for anyone who thinks it's worth while to rent a Ford Taurus -- that is one depressing car.

It's interesting how people say this movie is slow and boring and lacking an ending. Maybe if one looks at one's life more closely, that is extactly what you get. Maybe people want more, but what you get in this movie is a clever story, with interesting supporting characters and the struggle of the main character to maybe come to terms with himself. The whole movie is an open book from beginning to end. It leaves you wanting to know more about his past and his future. It's a strange ride, but so is life, and like life this movie transfixed me and left me asking question upon question about not only the characters but about myself and my past.

I don't see how people can give this movie a decent rating. I am being fair by even giving it a three. I like movies that are slow and 'grown up', but this was just plain boring. I wouldn't have minded it even as much if there wasn't such a commotion over it! It was a dissapointment and I would recommend against it. It's a waste of money and time.

Overall not a bad film, but lacking in some pretty important features. For one, a conclusion! But I suppose that is what the writer was going for, some people really like it when you're left wondering. Me, not so much. But I did have a few good laughs thanks to Bill Murray's indifferent attitude throughout the entire film. I don't think his expression changed the entire time, which is what made it funny. I would recommend renting it instead of going to the theatre though.

A different sort of movie. Moves along at an uneven pace as the Bill Murray character goes back through his life by visiting old girl friends. There are some funny bits and a few touching scenes. It never really comes to a conclusion. Some of the situations -- especially those dealing with his neighbour --ring true. Not a great movie but I'm glad I saw it.

I was tempted to give this movie a 10 in an attempt to counter all the people weaned on "Die Hard" and "Lethal Weapon" flicks, but instead I will be honest and give it what it deserves. Intelligent subtle movies are an acquired taste, admittedly, but I am dismayed by the reaction these kind of movies get from the general public. What has caused our society to become so superficial and lacking in patience? This movie made me laugh out loud(the Lolita scene), but mostly it made me think. I was also very intrigued by the distinct gender split in the reviews: women hated it, men liked it. All in all, if you liked Lost in Translation and About Schmidt, go see it. If you are a Lethal Weapon fan, go elsewhere.

Ironic product placement by Mapquest, for a movie with no direction. This movie can be amusing only to Bill Murray, because he was actually paid in this remake of the Emperor's New Clothes... Shame on the pretentious reviewers who tell the public that this is an arty film.

Stupid beginning, stupider ending and nothing in between! We thought with a couple fairly good actors in it, that it might be funny. We were dead wrong. The story (there was none), the acting (wasn't much at all) and, as for boring, it was top rate! The only saving grace may have been some of the scenery, though you have no idea where it takes place. Bad, very bad!

Some of you will find this movie extremely boring as because most of you rely on hollywood making it easy for you and giving you the "perfect" ending to all crap movies out there. This one is different... this movie makes you think... makes you open up your imagination... This is an excellent movie for you if you enjoyed movies like "Crash", "Last in Translations", "Life Aquatic", "March of Penguins". I do not recomend this movie for people with limited imagination and people with no sense of humore. Because simply they will not get it.

Hmmm, loved it. A smart movie like the US can do sometimes : American beauty, Lost in translation, the myth of fingerprints,... If you like french movies comme moi, you'll like this. True, it's not for everyone because it's slow pace (hey, it's a mood and feelings movie, not an action movie), focussed on the actors (sometimes, they have to paid to show some talent unlike your regular blockbuster actors), requires some thinking from the audience (not a leave-your-brain-at-the-coatcheck kinda movie) That's why the ending id open to your own imagination. Movies are also to make you dream and think.

I never comment about a movie on here, but I am so annoyed by this one I have to vent. I have never been to anything so dismally dull, irratating and pointless. To add insult to injury the music score is like nails on a chalk board. Is Bill Murray so devoid of scripts that he had to take this to pay the bills? SAVE YOU MONEY or send it to me, I'm $17 down. Perhaps Bill needs it more than me; send it to him!

If Bill Murray is supposed to be Don Juan or Don Johnson (with a "t" - the two are supposed to be synonemous), then how come he comes across as a lifeless toad? I don't understand how women could have ever been interested in this character. The whole story falls apart miserably.

Loved it. Laughed. Have been reading the reviews and am not surprised to see people tend either to love or to hate it - little middle ground. Carefully chosen spartan dialogue, NO action, and you have to use your eyes and ears and brains a bit to get the humour, but it's definitely worth the effort. Quietly brilliant.

- Playing With Coincidence - Jim Jarmusch makes an incredibly brave step with "Broken Flowers". From the begining, the movie feels like a reincarnation of "Lost in Translation". Bill Murray is that same guy given another life puzzle to solve. Even though, the second part of this movie gets more away from "Translation", its ending (without actual ending itself) takes us back to the same movie with Murray's enigmatic face as a conclusion. However, no need to underestimate Jarmusch and his talent. This must be something about the fact that many great movies ultimately contain something in common -- a great actor perhaps?

It's funny how some people will go to any movie without checking whose or what style is it only becouse some star plays in it. And good for you Bill, after duet with scarlet you can write down another good one- well you own us a big time after tootsie and ghostbuster 1&2, so call godard and bertolucci, maybe you still will be able to make up for selling your soul.

Do not waste your time or money on this movie, not even as a rental. Don't be fooled by the good trailer; this movie is boring, and features about an hour of Bill Murray sitting, standing, or driving with a void expression on his face, which in my opinion does not make him a good actor. There is no character development, which is unfortunate, because the cast seemed wonderful, they just failed to execute, and perhaps rode on their previous successes. The premise also seemed interesting, and this movie is an incredible blown opportunity for the director.

Very reminiscent of Lost In Translation, but not quite as good... like Lost In Translation a movie that's about character and emotion, not action, and so a lot of people would find it slow - but it contains a lot of truths about human nature at the same time. A very subtle film, sad but funny at the same time. Not one I'm going around recommending to all of my friends, but still one I'm glad I saw.

This movie was bad enough that I will never see another Bill Murray movie again. It was so boring my wife took advantage of the comfortable chairs and had a 45 minute nap. Bill Murray's lack of character development in this movie is evident by the amount of time he spends standing, sitting, driving and doing NOTHING! Having a stupid look on your face for half the movie does not make you a good actor. We were especially dissapointed because the premise was good, but the director and actors failed to execute. Don't be fooled by the good trailer.

I really loved this movie. The subtle nature of it is such a breath of fresh air in light of the 'hit you over the head with obviousness' that Hollywood tends churns out. If you like movies that are unpredictable, quirky, make you figure things out and rely on actual acting instead of special affects, then this is a must see. Some people may think it's dull, but I doubt very much whether the makers of the film were aiming at people who would characterize it as that. The casting was perfect, Don Johnston and his friend Winston were perfect together. The various women from Don's past were also excellent.
