A great coming of age story, and an interesting look at the genesis of a musician. It is NOT however, a musical, so don't be fooled by the genre above.

Doesn't have a point of view, Knows not where he's going to, isn't he a bit like you and me? Nowhere Boy gives us an explaination and a revelation regarding the origins of John Lennon's ( a splendid Aaron Johnson) poetic creativity. And the foregoing lines are a fine example of his many imaginative outpourings. We see that John's early life was an emtional rollercoaster with his aunt and his sister seemingly fighting for control of his life. Did this lead to the molding of his character and his soul? We find out the great influence of his mother -who taught him the banjo-and the tragedy of her sudden death. And the question is :Would John Lennon have been THE John Lennon without the nurturing and the love prooffered him by the two exceptional ladies in his early life? Would he still have been a star, if his mother had not left him so early?

If you grew up in the 60s and loved Beatle music this movie should not be missed! I believe this attempt at depicting the life of a young John Lennon was excellently executed; this includes casting, location, sets, costumes, screen play!

Very emotional look into John Lennon's early life. Definitely a must see, Anne-Marie Duff's part as John's mother, and her spirit was amazing, I felt like part of their live's. The other actors were fabulous as well. Hopefully there's more to come on John and the Beatles time, this group was such an important part of our changing times! Been to Liverpool twice and will probably head back again.

Nowhere Boy was the dramatic real-life movie. It rated four stars out of five stars. Was this adolescence of John Lennon (Aaron Johnson), a Beatles, before his career. He lived to Liverpool, the british town. His mother, Julia (Anne-Marie Duff), drinked a lot alcohol and eated the medicines. John Lennon lived at his aunt, Mimi (Kristin Scott Thomas), because Julia don't dealed of her boy. He discovered the passion of guitar with his mother and his friends. This movie is thirteen and plus because the story was little complicate. The actors played great because was this not easy emotions to play. The special effects were good also because I was come back in the story. However, I don't understood if Julia was the mother or the girlfriend of John Lennon.

Last week, I saw the film "Nowhere Boy". It was talking about the adolescence of John Lennon and what brings him to start a band. Before the movie began, I don't really knew what to think about it. I was afraid to see a movie who juste tell the story of John Lennon with actors who don't look at all at the characters in the real life. But I had a good surprise! The movie told the story of John Lennon, yes, but the actors were really in there characters and they were similary to the real characters. The film learned me about John Lennon and it was really interesting. The main characters were John Lennon, Paul McCartney (his friend), Julia (his mother), Mimi (his aunt) and the 4 other guys in the group with John Lennon and Paul McCartney. But I really disliked that the actor who played Paul McCartney don't looked at all like the real Paul. And sometimes, nothing happened and it was really boring. But except this, I really loved this movie, especially when there was sad or funny moments and it was really touching.

Watch it just for Anne-Marie Duff's exemplary portrayal of John Lennon's (clearly bi-polar) mother. Her performance is astounding. The film was brilliant when she was in a scene and less luminous without her. David Morrisey played her husband. Also another subtle (and moving) portrayal. I thought Aaron Johnson was good, too.

All the elements that make a great movie; script, acting, direction, sets were all excellent. The story even if it were not based on a true story, but simply a work of fiction, would stand on its own. It is a tale filled with pathos, conflict, humour and finally redemption. It really moved me. Kristin Scott-Thomas as Aunt Mimi, was as usual brilliant.

I really enjoyed this movie, though I thought it would have more Beatles stuff, I could have watched on & on.

I went to see the movie as a Lennon fan, but the movie has a much wider scope, it is about loss, coping, love of music and, of course, about John Lennon with a nod to Sir Paul. The cast is great, as a francophone a few words escaped me, but I still loved every frame. Any music or art lover ought to see this movie.

I see this as a movie with deep meaning and a message, in that all of us are always struggling to choose between our emotional side ( the mother) and our rational side (the aunt.) Combining the emotions inherited from his mother and the rational discipline of his aunt, Lennon emerged from nowhere to the somewhere we all became very familiar with. The lead actor is good but is maybe too good looking to be Lennon, who is more charismatic than he is handsome. In certain scenes he does conjure up our image of what Lennon might have looked like when he was in his teens. However, the actor does not show the cynicism and wit and edgy charm that we all grew to associate with Lennon. The movie started with the familiar chord from A Hard Day's Night (the song), but don't be mistaken that this is a movie about Beatles music. The chord just foretells the hard choices Lennon had to make in his youth, to choose between his aunt and his mother, and how he reconciles his emotional and rational psyche. This is a movie worth watching if you'd like to do some thinking about it afterward, as opposed to just learning more about Lennon's youth.

It's really a good movie. You can imagine what life's experiences John went throught and made him as a person to be, later on, a great artist. Can't wait to see Paul's movie!

This film is an excellent glimpse into John Lennon pre-Beatles and how his life transformed by so many discoveries - Elvis, Rock and Roll, his mother, and the ability to learn an instrument. The film is well made and the cast make it happen - highly recommeded if you're a fan and want to see the life of John before Beatlemania - truly fab you know!
